Step 1 – Let’s have a Chat
Our dentist will run through a few medical and dental questions to understand your concerns about your teeth. Once you have raised your concerns and feel comfortable and settled in our dental chair we then begin the second stage of your routine dental check-up and clean.
Step 2 – Let’s take a Look
Your routine dental check-up involves a physical examination of your oral and dental health to enable the dentist to identify any problems such as cavities, plaques , gum disease, other oral diseases, and even health issues. The dentist will perform a dental charting or take some pictures of your teeth. This is a record of what the dentist has observed and assists with creating a personalised treatment plan for you.
Step 3 – Let’s start the Clean
Many people have negative memories of this stage but technology has improved immensely and ultrasonic scalers these days are much more gentle on the teeth. Ultrasonic scalers remove plaque and tartar (your toothbrush can only remove plaque and food) and have the added benefit of being able to clean just below the gum line. Ultrasonic scalers vibrate at an extremely fast rate which results in a high pitch sound and a slight tingling feeling. Other than these sensations, you shouldn’t feel any pain during your routine dental check-up and clean. We then polish your teeth with a special toothpaste containing fluroide which helps protect your teeth from decay.
